AS-P-NLS (Automation Server Premium - No LonWorks Secure)
Schneider Electric's network controller designed for building automation performs functions such as control logic, trend recording and alarm monitoring. It supports up to 464 devices with 2 RS-485 and 2 Ethernet ports and offers IP20 protection rating and 0-50°C operating temperature.
Features: 10W power consumption, size 114x90x64 mm, weight 0.321 kg; BACnet B-BC certified.
Example Usage: Manages I/O modules and field buses in EcoStruxure BMS; maintains software integrity with Secure Boot.
RS-485 Ports (RS-485 Ports)
The device uses 2 RS-485 ports for serial communication; It connects field devices with protocols such as BACnet MS/TP or Modbus RTU. Supports a maximum distance of 1200m.
Sample Wiring: Use 2 shielded twisted pair wires; connect one pair to (+) and (-) terminals, the other insulated wire to C (common) terminals. Connect devices end-to-end (daisy-chain), add 120Ω terminating resistance at the ends. Connect the bare wire of the cable to the shield for grounding. (Screw with a torque of 0.56 Nm, according to SpaceLogic Hardware Reference Guide).
Example: When connecting the RS-485 port of the AS-P-NLS to an IP-IO module, (+) A1 to A2, (-) B1 to B2; connect terminals C to the common rail - for noise minimization.
Ethernet Ports (10/100 Ethernet Ports)
2 10/100 Mbps Ethernet ports provide IP-based network connectivity for BACnet/IP and Modbus TCP. It offers secure communication with TLS 1.0.
Sample Wiring: Use RJ45 connectors with standard Cat5e cable; one port connects to the main network and the other to the backup or subnet. No crossover cable required (auto-MDIX supported).
Example: When connecting the AS-P-NLS to a switch, route Port 1 to the building network and Port 2 to the cloud integration - set full duplex for 100 Mbps speed.
BACnet Protocol (BACnet Protocol)
Open building automation protocol; directly supports AS-P-NLS, BACnet/IP and BACnet MS/TP, BTL B-BC certified. Establishes secure networks with BACnet/SC.
Sample Wiring: Connect to IP network with Cat5e for Ethernet (BACnet/IP). MS/TP for RS-485: daisy-chain with 2 twisted pair cables, 120Ω resistance at the ends; max. 32 devices (can be increased with extenders).
Example: When connecting an HVAC sensor with BACnet MS/TP, connect in series with RS-485 port (+) and (-); configure Device Instance ID with ETS software - add biasing for data integrity.
Secure Boot
Security feature that allows the device to boot only with Schneider Electric approved software; prevents unauthorized access.
Features: Standard on AS-P-NLS; integrated with TLS 1.0, authenticates firmware updates.
Example: Kurulumda Device Administrator ile yazılım yüklerken, Secure Boot’u etkinleştirin – siber tehditlere karşı %100 bütünlük sağlar.
LonWorks Support
LonWorks protocol integration, but not supported on AS-P-NLS and AS-P-NL models (due to the “NL” suffix).
Note For LonWorks needs, choose the AS-P-S model; it connects directly with the FTT-10 port.
Example: Use adapters to integrate existing LonWorks devices, but LNS plug-in is limited in AS-P-NLS.
AS-P-NLS vs AS-P-NL Comparison
AS-P-NLS and AS-P-NL are Schneider Electric's premium automation servers; both are LonWorks-free (NL) and carry 2 RS-485 and 2 Ethernet ports, but differ in security.
Short Differences:
- Secure Boot: AS-P-NLS supports (software protection with secure boot); AS-P-NL does not.
- Security Protocols: AS-P-NLS offers advanced TLS and certificate management; AS-P-NL is basic.
- Target Usage: AS-P-NLS is ideal for high-security projects (data centers, hospitals); AS-P-NL is sufficient for standard BMSs.
- Other Features: Both share 464 devices, 10W consumption and BACnet support; in terms of price/performance the AS-P-NLS is premium. (See official manuals for details).
Backup Time and Clock Drift
10 days backup time and ±52 sec/month clock drift prevent data loss in case of power failures.
Features: Integrated with 512 MB RAM; easy battery replacement.
Example: Synchronize with NTP - critical in precision timed automation.
